'Gaudi in Motion'
Concert Description:
Antoni Gaudi, a Spanish Catalan architect’s inspiring work, is admired around the world as being one of the most unique and distinctive architectural styles. The complexity of his work was very eclectic to the nineteenth-century. For example, the Basilica of the Sagrada Familia, his most famous work in Barcelona, Spain, demonstrates such divergent impulses and contradictions. The goal of this project is to create a full length choreographic work that will take the audience through an exploration of Gaudi’s supernatural ideas through dance, creating a new way of appreciating his work. After visiting Gaudi’s work in Barcelona, Spain, modern dancers from Utah Valley University and University of Utah come together to explore these ideas through strength and high-energy movement. The choreography will take the audience through an investigation of the symbolism, the colorful architectural structure itself, and the dream-like work that Gaudi is famous for, creating an eclectic evening of dance.
